The most important thing your scribe should be doing

“What do you mean they don’t fill out the entire chart?” I asked quizzically.

“I think their scribes are only filling out the HPIs for their doctors. That’s all they are doing,” my colleague replied. 

What? Not filling out the entire chart? Then what’s the point of even having a scribe?

Are Medical scribes the right prescription for ICD-10?

On October 1, most U.S. health care providers switched to a new system of classification for medical conditions and diagnoses – the 10th edition of the International Classification of Diseases or ICD-10. Though everyone in the healthcare field has known that this change was on the horizon for many years news (including being delayed by an act of Congress several times), many providers are still not sure how their practices should best deal with almost 55,000 new codes for diagnosing patients.

What Does Cerner’s Purchase of Siemens mean for the Soarian EMR?

A few weeks ago Cerner announced that it was purchasing Siemens Health Services for $1.3 billion. Although the real boost to Cerner is likely to come from its acquisition of Siemen’s expertise in medical devices and advanced imaging capabilities, Cerner will have to decide the future of Siemens EMR—Soarian.
